Growing
up in the shadow of Maine's Acadia National Park, Susan Knowles
Jordan developed an appreciation of nature and the outdoors -
an appreciation fostered by her family. An early inspiration
for her interest was the book, Alone in the Wilderness,
written by Joseph Knowles, a relative and renowned artist. Jordan, who lives in Waltham, Maine, began drawing and painting at an early age. Self-taught until age 20, she decided in 1982 to broaden her skill. Subsequently, she studied with Norma Conway of Jupiter, Florida, Don Stone of Monhegan Island, Maine, and nationally acclaimed wildlife artist Persis Clayton Weirs of Deer Isle, Maine. |
| Jordan has
the distinction of being the first Maine artist, and the first
woman, to be selected to create the image for New Hampshire's
Migratory Waterfowl Stamp. Her credentials include winning the
1994 Maine Duck Stamp competition. Her work has been exhibited
extensively in her home state of Maine, and also has been hung
at such prestigious shows as the Annual Wildlife Festival in
Easton, Maryland, and the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in
Charleston, South Carolina. While Jordan predominantly paints wildlife, she enjoys variety and the challenges of trying new things. Jordan works mostly in acrylics, but also uses |
